Nashville bar, with a huge wide open window that faced a busy intersection in the heart of the Gringo Gulch was my very first hangout when i arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica.
It was a great place to hang with friends, watch the people go by, and because there was always someone in there that you knew it was very hard to just walk by without stopping. Over the years I met several friends there. Just one block from the Del Rey, and one block from Dos Gringos (Papis) made it a great place to start or end your evening.
I was first lured in there by a very beautiful bartender named Veronica. She had a personality like no other, and we became very good friends. You can still visit her at new place the Poas Bar.
With the open window and the 70′s music blaring from an in house sound system supplied by former New York DJ and manager Chris the party was on. It wasn’t out of the question to meet an occasional working girl that would stop for a change of pace.
There are many reasons why the place closed, however I always had a great time there and was very sad when it was no more.

I could write quite a story on the place, and I am tempted, but in Costa Rica you can be jailed for telling the truth, so I hesitate. We'll see.
Thats a nice piece of real estate, one block from Del Rey and one block from Papis. You can get drunk and stumble through those blocks and still feel safe in San Jose, But if were you, I wouldnt stumble out of that one block.
Its actually pretty dark on that block now that the Nashville and Maple Cafe have closed. That street going south is nice a nice place to be late at night.
Well, It's been too long since I've visited the land of mi padre. Since Katrina, CR has been a destination of luxery I could not afford. Finally, in about a month, I will visit again. I am ready to again to negotiate sex in a darkend bar. There is nothing like it. However, there is a new attitude about this art that is troublesome. I sense a lack of respect for the young ladies that seek to make a living for those that depend on the skills of their youth. I guess the phrases that come to mind are "ugly american" or " youth is wasted on the young". CR is a special place. Don't ruin it by raping it's best qualitys just because you can.
Let's buy the Nashville!! I'm serious.
The owner of the building vowed NEVER EVER EVER to allow it to be opened as a bar again. I miss the place but still see many of the old inhabitants, I even ran into Shad in San Jose Dec '11. He's looking good and seemed in good spirits.
